First Year Honours Admission, 2008 - 2009

The preliminary application forms for admission to First Year Honours at the University of Dhaka for the academic year 2008-2009 of all four units (KA, KHA, GA & GHA) can be obtained from the specified banks on the university campus from 19.10.2008 to 03.11.2008 on cash payment of TK. 300.00 per form. After making the required payment at the counter of the concerned bank (given below) the students must collect the appropriate Preliminary Application Form and Admission Guide.

Only those students who have passed the H.S.C. or any equivalent examination of 2007 or 2008 are eligible to apply for admission to the different Departments and Institutes of the concerned units subject to their fulfilling the required criteria.

The admission guides of the concerned units will give the detailed list and admission requirements of the Departments and Institutes to which the students can seek admission.

The application forms must be duly filled in by the concerned applicants and submitted to the following unit offices on or before 03.11.2008 during office hours.

Four copies of Passport Size recent Colour Photographs, Attested Copies of transcripts/mark-sheets of S.S.C and H.S.C or equivalent examinations issued by the concerned Boards must be submitted with the Preliminary Application Form. Copies of the transcripts/mark-sheets issued by the school or college will not be accepted.

NB: The unit offices will not receive any application form after the dead line of 03.11.2008.

KA Unit -- For Students of Science & Agricultural Science groups only.

All Departments of the Faculties of Science and Biological Science, the Pharmacy faculty, the Engineeing and Technology, the earth and Environmental Sciences, the Institute of Nutrition & Food Science, and the Institute of Statistical Research & Training of Dhaka University are in this unit.

The students who have passed H.S.C. in Science group or Agricultural Science group or Alim in Science group under Madrasa Education Board, and have a GPA totalling at least 8.0 (excluding fourth/additional subject) in their S.S.C. and H.S.C. or equivalent examinations are eligible to apply for admission.

KHA Unit -- For Students of Humanities group only

All Departments of the Faculties of Arts, Social Sciences, and Law, the Department of Geography and Environment under the Faculty of Science, the Departments of Psychology, under the Faculty of Biological Science, and Social Welfare under Institute of Social Welfare and Research are in this unit.

The students who have passed H.S.C. or equivalent examinations, or Alim under Madrasa Education Board in Humanities group, and have a GPA totalling at least 6.5 (excluding fourth/additional subject) in their S.S.C. and H.S.C. and G.C.E. (with at least two subjects of Humanities Group) or equivalent examinations are eligible to apply for admission.

The students of this group can be take admission to any of the Departments mentions above only through KHA unit.

GA Unit -- For students of Business Education group only.

All Departments of the Faculty of Business Studies are in this unit.

The students who have passed H.S.C. or equivalent examinations in Business Education or Diploma in Commerce and Business Management and have a GPA totalling at least 7.5 (excluding fourth/additional subject) in their S.S.C. and H.S.C. or equivalent examinations are eligible to apply for admission.

Students from Diploma in Commerce or Business Management must have a GP of at least 3.00 in Accounting at the H.S.C. level.

GHA Unit: Transfer Unit -- For students of all groups mentioned in KA, KHA, and GA.

The students of KA Unit are not eligible to apply for admission to any Department/Institute under KA Unit through GHA Unit, the students of KHA Unit are not eligible to apply for admission to any Department/Institute under KHA Unit through GHA Unit, The students of GA Unit are not eligible to apply for admission to any Department/Institute under GA Unit through GHA Uniti, i.e. Transfer Unit.

The departments/Institutes in which the students can apply for admission under this transfer unit are enumerated in the admission guide of GHA unit.

The students who have passed H.S.C. or equivalent examinations, or Alim under Madrasa Education Board in Humanities group falling under KHA Unit, and have a GPA totalling at least 6.5 (excluding fourth/additional subject) in their S.S.C. and H.S.C. or equivalent examinations are eligible to apply for admission.

The students of Science, Agricultural Science, and Home Economics groups and Alim under Madrasa Education Board in Science Group falling under KA Unit must have a GPA totalling at least 8.0 (excluding fourth/additional subject) in their S.S.C. and H.S.C. or equivalent examinations to apply for admission to the Departments under KHA and GA if they fulfill the criteria set by the concerned Departments.

The students of Business Education, Diploma in Commerce and Business Management falling under GA Unit must have a GPA totalling at least 7.5 (excluding fourth/additional subject) in their S.S.C. and H.S.C. or equivalent examinations.

The students must have a GP totalling at least 6.0 in Bengali and English in their H.S.C. or equivalent examinations. But GP below 3.0 in any subject is not acceptable.

Some General Rules (Applicable for all Units)

1. All applicants must fulfill the criteria set by the concerned Units and Departments/Institutes.

2. G.C.E. Students: Students who have passed at least 5 subjects at the "O" Level Examinations, and at least 2 subjects at the "A" level examinations, and out of these seven subjects, have at least "B" grade in 3 subjects, and "C" grade in 4 subjects are eligible to apply.

3. Students who have passed equivalent examinations of the required examinations as mentioned under the Units from abroad may apply for admission with approval of the Unit chiefs. But they will be considered eligible for participation in the admission tests if their applications are approved by the equivalence committee of the concerned Department/Institute. Besides, such applicants must fulfill the criteria fixed by the concerned unit.

Admission under Quota:

Any student willing to be considered for admission under Ward Quota, Indigenous/Ethnic Quota, Blind Quota or Freedom Fighter's Children Quota must indicate the relevant quota in the preliminary application form, and submit with the form the required copies of documents as proof of eligibility for the concerned quota.

A List of the concerned quota documents are given below:

In the case of Ward Quota, certificate from the concerned Chairman/Director/Office head of the Department /Institute/Office of Dhaka University; for the Freedom Fighter's Children Quota, certificate from the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs; for Indigenous/Ethnic Quota, certificate from the concerned Tribal Chief or Deputy Commissioner (DC).

Students willing to apply under aforesaid quota will collect a prescribed form for quota from the office of the unit chief and will submit the filled in form along with a copy of the concerned quota document to the respective Unit Office within seven days of publication of the admission test result. No application form will be issued or received after due date.

Admission Tests will be held under MCQ system. Marks will be deducted for every wrong answer.

If the spelling of the name of an applicant is not the same in the S.S.C. and H.S.C. mark-sheets/certificates issued by the concerned board the applicant will not be allowed to get admission.

If any information is not mentioned in the admission guide, clarification can be sought from the concerned unit office.

NB: The University authorities reserve the right to add any new rule (or rules) or modify the existing rules.
