BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Md. Shahidul Islam is an Associate Professor of Banking and Economics in the Department of Banking and Insurance, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Dr. Islam received his PhD in Economics from the Graduate School of Economics and Management, Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan in September 2016, specializing in Microeconomics of Banking. He obtained his Master of Business Administration (MBA) major in Banking and his Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree in Banking and Finance from the University of Dhaka in 2003 and 2004 respectively. Dr. Islam’s current research focuses on the Banks’ performance behavior with the changes in micro and macroeconomic parameters. He has contributed to over 15 peer-reviewed publications, including in many as first author, in the Elsevier, Scienpress and other renowned publishing houses journals.

Dr. Islam has extensively attended and presented his scholarly research works at many international meetings and academic conferences in abroad including Japan, China and Malaysia. In November 2017, he delivered lectures as the Invited Speaker at the Zhengzhou University, China. He frequently contributes to the reputed national daily newspapers including The Daily Star and The Daily Stock Bangladesh. He is the panel reviewer of Elsevier publisher and of journals like Japan Economic Review (JER), Eurasian Journal of Business and Economics (EJBE), Journal of Banking and Financial Services (JBFS), Dhaka University Journal of Business Studies (DUJBS) etc. He has membership of various professional and social associations including Alumni Association of Tohoku University (AATU), Dhaka University Alumni Association of Banking (DUAAB), and Dhaka University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) etc.
