OVERVIEW

Dr. Mohammad Azmal Hossain Bhuiyan is an excellent teacher, researcher, and academician. Currently, he has been serving as Associate Professor of Botany, University of Dhaka. He obtained the Ph.D. degree from the Graduate School of Engineering and Science, Faculty of Science, University of the Ryukyus, Japan. He obtained B.Sc. (Hons) and M.S. (Thesis) degrees in Botany from University of Dhaka, Bangladesh and secured 1st Class in both the examinations. He obtained his H. Sc. (Higher Secondary) and S.S.C (Secondary School Certificate) degrees from Comilla Board and secured Star marks in both the examinations. During his Ph.D. research entitled "Taxonomy and molecular phylogeny of some isolates of the genus Pyramimonas from the Ryukyu Archipelago, Japan", he isolated 41 strains of Pyramimonas sp. from the Pacific Ocean and China Sea from 2012 to 2015. He described a big number of strains of Pyramiomnas sp. with molecular pieces of evidence, electron microscopy, phylogenetic bases for the first time in the world. That was the first and biggest sampling on Pyramimonas sp. so far. He already discovered a new microalga named Pyramimonas vacuolata and published in famous international journal Phycologia published from the USA and some other new species are in the processes to publish from his researches. Recently, he has introduced a course named 'Molecular and applied phycology" for MS students in the Department of Botany, DU and hopefully, this course will help students to earn advanced knowledge in Phycology and will open a new array in phycological Research In Bangladesh. Now, he is working on the Algal Flora of Bangladesh, Marine Botany, Water quality and pollution management in marine and freshwater habitats, Biodiversity of Bangladesh.
