MD. SHAFIQUL ISLAM (PhD. and Master’s in Thermalhydraulics Safety of Nuclear Reactors, Saga University, Japan and Graduated from BUET in Mechanical Engineering) is an Associate Professor, Department of Nuclear Engineering, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. He has broad experiences in thermalhydraulics safety studies of nuclear reactors. He has about eight years work experiences on nuclear research reactor operation and maintenance activities during his past job at Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC). Dr. Islam has participated in nuclear safety, security, and safeguards related technical meetings, workshops, and seminars at IAEA, Austria, USA, Canada, Japan, Italy, the Russian Federation, the Netherlands and the like. He has published about 40 scientific articles mostly in the International Journals, Conference proceedings, Seminars, Symposiums, and technical reports in the field of nuclear safety, security, and safeguards. He is a writer of the book “Nuclear Energy Known-Unknown Facts (cigvYy kw³i Rvbv ARvbv)” and columnist on science & technology affair. He received the best Paper Award by the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) in 2003 and the Best Poster Presenter Award in the Int. Physics Conference, organized by the Bangladesh Physical Society (BES) in 2009. His research interest includes nuclear safety, security and nonproliferation matters and energy economics & conservation. He is involved with various professional societies as a Fellow of Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB), Member, Bangladesh Society of Mechanical Engineers (BSME), Life Fellow, Bangladesh Solar Energy Society, and Life Fellow, Bangladesh Physical Society (BES).
