Details of Dr. A.K.M. Rezaul Karim

Dr. A.K.M. Rezaul Karim is a young and dedicated Professor in the Department of Psychology, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. He received a Ph.D. in (Experimental) Psychology from Kanazawa University, Japan (link). He is an internationally trained vision scientist as well as a neuroscientist, having experience of working in collaboration with reputed international scientists. He received his postdoctoral training in Neuroscience and Neurorehabilitation at Envision Research Institute, Wichita, KS, USA (link1, link2) and the Smith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute, San Francisco, CA, USA (link1, link2). As part of this training, he also worked as an affiliate in the Department of Neurology, University of California San Francisco (UCSF), USA (link). Through this training Dr. Karim mastered the state-of-the-art neuroimaging techniques and cultivated the skills necessary for cutting-edge research, expanding his expertise to neuroscience, neuroaestehtics and neurorehabilitation (of blindness). In his study, Dr. Karim employed the novel behavioral measures (tactile rating scales) in combination with functional MRI techniques (in blind and sighted participants) in order to examine the role visual experience plays in the perception of aesthetics or beauty in 3D tactile objects (some excellent works are now under preparation for publication). To date, Dr. Karim has 35 research papers and 16 conference papers under his belt. He has published his outstanding theoretical and empirical works in a few top international journals, such as Neuroscience & Biobehavioral Reviews (Karim et al., 2016), and Scientific Reports (a Nature journal, Karim et al., 2017). Thus far, he has 88 citations in the leading international journals (click here to see). Dr. Karim has expertise in mentoring both Master's and Ph.D. students. Currently he is offering the courses in Experimental Psychology. Research Methodology, and Psychology of Perception. His current research interest includes visual and tactile perception, multisensory perception, crossmodal cognition, neuroaesthetics, sensory impairment, neurorehabilitation of blindness, cortical plasticity, and behavioral laterality in humans.
