PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE              :    Associate Professor, Department of Sociology, University of Dhaka from 1994 to November 2000.

 

                                                                     Assistant Professor and Lecturer at the Institute of Social Welfare and Research (ISWR), University of Dhaka, from 1988 to 1993.

 

                                                                 :    From 1977 to 1987 worked in different national and international Non-Government Organizations (NGO) in the field of community and Rural Development.

 

COURSES TEACH/TAUGHT                  :    Social Inequality, Social Problems Analysis, Social Stratification, Criminology, Bangladesh Society and Culture.

 

MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE              :    Responsibilities were for overall development and management of community based programs/projects funded by World Bank (WB), Asian Development Bank (ADB), European Union (EU), Department for International Development (DFID) and Government of Bangladesh (GoB).

 

CONSULTANCY EXPERIENCE             :    Co-Team Leader, Evaluation of Water Supply Facilities in the Costal Belt Bangladesh (1st phase project) of Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED), Govt. of Bangladesh and Research Evaluation Associates for Development Ltd (READ) from February – May 2008.

                                                                    

                                                                     Investigated the extent of capacity development in providing clean water supply  facilities in the rural areas especially  in the  non–served and under served  Coastal areas. also assessed the incidence of diarrhoea, parasitic infections and other related morbidities amongst the rural people and children of the catchments.

 

                                                                        :   Participation Specialist, Rural Transport Improvement Project (S-1), LGED, from January 2004 –September 2006 (Hifab/RPMC).

 

                                                                     To conduct the Participatory Planning Sessions for the improvement of Roads, Ghats and Hats at the different places of the project area. In this connection participation of women and indigenous people were ensured.

 

                                                                 :    Social Impact Analyst, Gas Sector Development Project (GSDP) from November 2003 to January 2004 (ADB-Techno Consult Ltd.)

 

                                                                     Conducted social survey at the Eastern and Western Zones of the project area to assess the social impact.

 

                                                                 :    Community Development Specialist, Evaluation Team on Coastal Embankment Rehabilitation Project (CERP); from June-July 2003; European Union (EU) and Associate Development Services Limited (ADSL).

 

                                                                     The task was to evaluate the participation of char people specially the womenfolk in the community development activities of CERP.

 

                                                                 :    Social Impact Analyst, Feasibility Study of the Network Improvement for proposed Road Sector Reform Project (RSRP) from February – May 2003 (WB-FINNROAD ESL, ORG, Devcon).

 

                                                                     Assess the socio-economic importance in selection of roads for proposed Road Sector Reform Project in the Eastern and Western zones.

 

                                                                 :    Team Leader, City Development Strategies (CDS) study of Khulna City, from December 2001 to January 2002 (Department for International Development-DFID and Uni-Consult Ltd., Dhaka)

                                                                     The study was taken to assess the city dweller’s perception, in connection with poverty reduction and better living.

                                                                 :    Stakeholder Analyst, Fourth Fisheries Project on Feasibility Study (Phase-1) of Fish-Pass and Fish-Friendly Structures, from March to October 2001 (Bangladesh Engineering & Technological Services-BETS).

                                                                    

                                                                     Responsibilities were to organize the users group as per Bangladesh Water Development Board’s (BWDB) Guidelines of People’s Participation (GPP) and assess the perception of the stakeholders on O&M of Fish-Pass and Fish-Friendly structures.

                                                                                   

                                                                     Also conducted a survey, analyzed data and wrote the report on Social Impact Assessment (SIA) on the different locations of the project.

 

                                                                 :    Community Development Specialist, National Water Management Plan (NWMP) of Water Resources Planning Organization (WARPO), from April 1999 to February 2001 (House of Consultants Ltd.).

 

                                                                     Responsibilities were to assess the social impact of the on-going water sector Projects, also took part in selected Peoples' Participation and Consultation Program (PPCP) to identify the needs and know perception of the stakeholders specially the womenfolk and the indigenous people.

 

                                                                 :    Social Impact Analyst, Baseline Studies for Drilling Sites Project, from  January-February 1999 (Resources Planning Management Center-RPMC)

 

                                                                     Conducted a socio-economic baseline study of 4 drilling sites (Kapna, Ratna, Bibiyana and MB3 ) of  Oxidental Bangladesh Ltd. (Oxy) at Sylhet Division.

 

                                                                     The study was to assess the perception of the  project area’s people specially, the economically insolvent regarding the drilling operation and gas exploration.

 

                                                                 :    Socio Economic Consultant, Small Scale Fisheries Development of CADP: Part-C, from May to September 1998 (Kranti Associates Ltd.)

 

                                                                     Conducted a socio-economic base-line survey at Matlab, Chandpur dist. Also analyzed data and wrote the report on the findings.

 

                                                                 :    Social Impact Analyst, Environmental Safety and Social Impact Assessment (ESSA), from April – May 1998 (Bangladesh Engineering and Technological Services-BETS).

 

                                                                     Conducted a social survey, analyzed data and wrote the “Social Safety” chapter.

 

                                                                 :    Social Development Specialist, Fourth Natural Gas Development Project (FNGDP), from February – April 1998 (Bangladesh Engineering and Technological Services –BETS).

                                                                     Conducted socio-economic survey to assess the view of the low income group on future gas use in the Western zone of Bangladesh.

                                                                 :    Resettlement Specialist, Rehabilitation of Dhaka-Sylhet Road Project under RRMP-III, from October 1997 – February 1998. (Engineering Science Ltd.)

 

                                                                     Responsible for land acquisition and resettlement issues also conducted socio-economic survey and wrote the report and suggested income-generating schemes for the PAPs.

 

                                                                 :    Resettlement Specialist, Dhaka Eastern By-Pass Studies, from February to May 1997 (Engineering Science Ltd).

                                                                    

                                                                     Conducted a socio-economic and ethnographic survey to know the affect and impact of the inhabitants specially the indigenous people within the project area, where the proposed alignment passed through and proposed for resettlement area.

                                                                

                                                                     Also analyzed data and wrote a report on “Community Participation”.

                                                                    

                                                                 :    Community Development Specialist, Third Rural Infrastructure Development Project (RIDP), LGED, from August to November 1996 (Resource Planning and Management Consultants (RPMC).

                                                                    

                                                                     Responsible to assess the needs of training for Ghat Managers and people engaged in the maintenance of Growth Centres and Feeder Roads. Also developed modules and prepared programs for training.

                                                                    

                                                                 :    Social Impact Analyst, Special Services Team (SST), Cyclone Shelter Preparatory Study (Phase 1), from February –May 1996 (Mott. Macdonald International Ltd.)

                                                                    

                                                                     Responsibilities were to collect and analyze materials, compiled data and wrote the supporting Volume No. 7 on “Disaster Management” for the main report.

                                                                    

                                                                     Also suggested the ways to improve the socio-economic conditions for the people specially for the distress women of the project area.

                                                                    

                                                                 :    Resettlement Consultant, Jamuna Multi-purpose Bridge Project (JMBP) from November 1993 to May 1994. (Techno Consult Ltd.)

                                                                    

                                                                     Involved in resettlement planning for the East Bank, developed programs and opportunities for the resettles to share the project benefits.

                                                                    

                                                                 :    Social Development Specialist, Third Fisheries Project, from May to June 1993. (Overseas Development Administration-now DFID ).

 

                                                                     An extensive field investigation was made to verify the flow of benefits to the target group as defined by the project and identified eventual improvement.

 

                                                                 :    Socio-Economic Consultant, FAP-17, from June 1992 to January 1993 (Department for International Development-DFID).

 

                                                                     Responsibilities were to meet the executives of the Fishermen Co-operatives societies to narrate the objectives of FAP-17, and mobilize their support for the implementation of FAP’s program.

 

                                                                     In this connection, extensively traveled within the project area of FAP-17 and different places of Rajshahi and Sylhet divisions including Tangail District.

 

                                                                 :    Social Development Specialist, Dhaleshwari Mitigation and Land Use Master Plan for the Jumana Bridge Project areas from April-October, 1991 (Uni-Consult Ltd.)

 

                                                                     Extensive field study was made at the East and West Bank of Jamuna river including Bogura district to assess public opinion on “Land Use”.
